Newbie

Post by bgsoules » Sat Jun 27, 2009 2:46 am

Hello...I'm brand new to "short arm" quilting. I just purchased a Sturdy-Lite frame by Grace Company and my Janome 6260 is working fine except that I have very little room in the throat. What are your suggests for a "mid-arm" machine. And, any tips appreciated.
Thanks,
Brenda

Are you talking about getting a mid-arm machine that will work with the frame you have? Or do you plan on an entire new set-up?

Last November I got an HQ-16 but I also got the upgraded frame to go with it. Absolutely no regrets. This purchase was my next step up from a B-Line frame with a Juki machine (short-arm set-up).

It will depend on how much weight your frame and carriage will hold. The Voyager 17 is 75 pounds but the Bailey is only 35 lbs. So, you need to ask Grace what the weight limit is and how large the carriage can be and still roll on your rails. Amie

I just bought a "almost new" Grace Sturdy-Lite frame. I'm using my Janome 6260 right now but would like a machine with a larger throat. Thanks for the comments. I hadn't thought about weight limits and such. This is all new for me.

bgsoules - this quilting thing is a continuous learning experience for me. I would definitely call the Grace Co. and ask for their recommendation of a machine to go with your frame.

Hi, i also have a grace frame, if you look at the site it shows 4 or 5 people sitting and standing on the frame
It is really sturdy. or at least mine is. mine is the large wooden one. it doesn't shake or vib when in use. i used my singer on it for 2 yrs but i finely bought a viking 870. i love the way it cuts the thread when i move from place to place. it has a 10 inch throat.

Yes Barbara, but can 4 people stand on the Sturdy-Lite? Grace makes several, not sure the Sturdy-Lite rollers could handle a 75 lb. machine. Amie
