tiny applique blocks

Post by lilchubbyquilter »

I am at the sandwich and starting to quilt a baby quilt. My concern is my design has been the prarie point design. I never knew what they were called, I just used them on a group of 4 blocks to create a 3d pinwheel look. Now I find out that I have been making prarie points. Point being, after the 4 block grouping is put together, I have alternated blue pinwheels on a yellow block and yellow pinwheels on the blue blocks.. and this leaves a cent of approximately 4" square in the center. I need to quilt to make sure the quilt does not shift and it's just to pretty for straight stitch in the ditch or even out of the ditch. I am open to any suggestions of possibly using a one color applique in the center of either the yell or blue block. I know what I want to do on the slender inside border and the larger outside border. Since I am in the learning stage of applique on my embroidery part of my Bernina 630, I am open to any suggestions you may have.

Blessings

Depending on the type of batting, I would think it would be okay to leave a small area, like the 4" center square, UN-quilted, if you wanted to.

You could quilt around the area, and then sneak some tiny hand stitches into the center, just to make it sturdier. That way the stitches won't show, but the center will be secured. Just an idea for ya.

I've made once a 3-D Pinwheel baby quilt and have only tied it at each pinwheel's centers and each points. :-)

I've posted a picture of it in the quilting photos section. I'll bring it to the top for you to see.
