Well, I just had to report back on this - I bought a new pair of jeans that had to be hemmed, remembered this post (thank you!), looked up the tutorial, am a little thick so looked at one more tutorial and then tried it - worked like a charm and is not noticeable! (which I was concerned with)

Thanks, now that I can see it I can go ahead and do my jeans. I was waiting for time so I could sit down and figure it out (that might have been never). Looks simple enough. Thanks again..........jan

Sewbug, Thanks for a great idea. I have been hemming jeans and everything else all my life. Ruth, you are "tall" at 5'. I am only 4' 10 1/2" so I have to cuff jeans 2 or 3 times regardless of the length if I don't want to hem them. This sounds so simple. Why didn't I think of that? I have used stitch witchery and/or glue before too on hemming and it usually holds up very well.
I don't own any of those below the knee pants because most of them are long pants on me. ( They were called pedal pushers when I was a kid. Someone invented them so our pantlegs wouldn't get caught in the bicycle chain. Not sure what they are called now)
Hugs, Shirley Mae

Thanks sewbug, When my short legged grandson comes over, my DH always waits until the last minute to get things together when they are going out. Of course what ever the GS gets is way long and never enough time to get them hemmed. This worked like a DREAM! I just did a 'stitch in the ditch' up the side seams to keep the 'hemmed' part up inside. They picked up this suit coat and GS thinks he is 'a good looking guy'....
Other than the hair thing, I agree. He has decided the mop on the head is 'sexy' and we can't convince him otherwise......
