Sweet Somethings - A Dessert Block Swap--ON THE WAY HOME!!!

Post by buttercup » Sat Apr 11, 2009 5:12 pm

Hello All!

Sewcarolyn and I have decided to co-hostess a tasty block and charm square exchange themed around desserts of all kinds and other sweet things to eat. The plan is to have each participant create a design for a block that features something sweet. Examples would be things such as pies, cakes, ice cream, candies, cookies, cupcakes, or anything else you might consider having as a dessert. The charm squares, which will be used as cornerstones, should be cut from a fabric that also features something sweet to eat. When all is said and done, each person will end up with a quilt made up of a whole lot of different sweet somethings, with little sweet somethings in between the blocks!

Here's what each participant would be responsible for contributing:

*20 quilt blocks, 10-1/2" unfinished. All 20 should feature your chosen design for a "sweet something" on a white-on-white background.

AND

*30 charm squares, 3-1/2", made from novelty fabric that features a dessert or other sweet treat to eat.

Sign-ups will begin immediately, and will close on or around May 15th.

Finished blocks and charm squares will be due either July 15th or August 1st, depending upon the consensus of those who wish to take part in this delicious swap. Please pm either Sewcarolyn or myself to let us know if you would like to sign up for this one, and also to let us know your preference for the due date. We will tally the results and post the due date after we receive your responses. The finished blocks and charm squares will be sorted and returned to you 2 weeks after they are due.

We look forward to sharing lots of yummy things!

Your quilting pals,

Buttercup and Sewcarolyn

********4/25/09:
I've made an executive decision: The Due Date for these will be August 1, 2009 unless there are a lot of strong objections.

********May 24, 2009********SPECIAL UPDATE:

We are still planning on making all 20 blocks, hoping we'll find another quilting friend to join us. Ask all your friends, and whoever posts a message first that they want in will be our 20th.

We are also still making the 30 cornerstone 3-1/2" charm squares. When they are sorted and returned, each person will receive 1 of each type sent in, plus enough from a mixture of the remainder to have 30 total.

PLEASE, EVERYONE, SEND ME A PM WITH YOUR FORUM NAME, REAL NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE, AND EMAIL ADDRESS. I WILL REPLY WITH MY CONTACT INFORMATION.

I think I would like in, but need a visual to see what kind of blocks you are expecting. Do you have any examples?

I will make up one and post it..applique, fussy cut, a "sugar cookie" could be made by using a cookie cutter and add embellishment to look like icing. There are lots of cupcake and icecream applique patterns out there too

oh mommy, you could so do this one.... a brown wedge is chocolate cake, a dollop of vanilla on top is icecream.... put a line of white down the middle of the cake and bam... you have layered cake...lol...

Carolyn's idea about tracing the cookie cutter is great...or... get some kind of strawberry fabric and make strawberry short cake.....

This sounds sooooooo cute. I'm in. And me the day late and the dollar short person. But I'm willing to give it a try.

ugh. I've tried to post a couple of times...I can do this swap as long as I can paper piece. I've found a bunch of cute ones, I like the popsicles Mgrammy. Very cool.
