Kona Muslin

Has anyone tried the Kona muslin? I usually buy the 200 count muslin on sale , and was wondering if the Kona was better than Roc-Lon ...

I have used the premium kona muslin and really like it. Much better than the regular muslins.

I love Kona! It comes in so many colors. I usually buy it at Hobby Lobby and Hancocks.

I first learned about Kona from watching Eleanor Burns on the Egg Money Quilts video.

I like using Kona Snow with 30's prints and Kona Bone with Thimbleberries. I used Kona Black with my rose quilt.

I've taken scraps with me to the store to audition against the Kona to see which color works best.

I love Kona ) It's made from egyption long staple cotton, hence smoothness. I use it almost exclusivly. I've also dicovered Kona sister, Essex b Kaufamn. It's a linin and ctoon blend made from a flax plant, I love the organic-y feel to it! Amie )

Is Kona muslin different from Kona Natural? It sure looks like muslin.

One thing I've started to do with the Kona Cotton I buy is to write on the selvedge edge what color it is and where I bought it. Then use from the other end. There are so many different names of Kona Cotton, and I have quite a few of them, that I tend to forget. I usually buy it online as the LQS charges double what Hancocks of Paducah does!!!

The Kona muslin has the natural undyed brownish specks in it but the same weight as the Kona Cotton. Amie )

The Kona Cotton Natural I have has specks and I got it from Hancocks of Paducah....now I'm wondering.

The specks you are seeing is probably some ground up cotton seeds. It has not been prossesed to death and still has some of the natural cotton seeds left in. My mother had some old, old quilts that she sold (before I got the quilting bug). When the woman came to look at them she kept holding them up to the light. She was looking for the whole cotton seed which was in very old batting. She said that it was not necessary to comb this batting completly clean of seeds. People would try to pawn off newer quilts as being very old but this was the tell tale sign of a very old quilt. So beware of 'old' quilts you might find at flea markets.........Jan

I have to also add that I love Kona cotton..I buy the off white for what I would use muslin for and the white is really pretty when you just want a nice plain with no tone on tone. It's a little more spendy than the basic muslin but I try to buy it our Hancock's when they have it on sale.
