HELP Hankie quilt

Post by Omaquilter1 »

I have lots of old hankies. I want to make a quilt with these, I do NOT want to make them in blocks, I want to sew them together, overlap, cut in half etc. What kind of tread do I use? and when I'm
finished can this be machine quilted and still look good, or are the hankies to thin to machine quilt? Hope someone knows. I saw one like this at the Iowa State fair several years ago and made big mistake by not looking at it carefully :(

Hello Omaquilter1,
I have a web site that I seen in this magazine and it talked about hankies and quilting them. visit their website, quilter's muse, at www.quiltersmuse.com I think you will find this interesting. I read the article in the quilter magazine May 2009. It talked about a hankie quilts. One was made by a lady that was just folded and not permanently attached. www.oldhankies.com. I'm new to quilting too and I hope this helps and I use to live by springfield area and go to Branson and I bought the magazine at Joanns store. I hope the weather is nice down their. Have a great day.

Thanks!

Nancy, start visiting flea markets. That's what I did when I wanted to use doilies in the teacup block swap but didn't want to pay the price for brand new ones.
