Just my two cents, I am putting eight fabrics in each block.
I made stacks of red, blue, ivory/cream, and tans and began making "units", the 3-piece, 5-inch square that makes up one-fourth of the finished block. Made sure to match cream with red, tans with blue.
Then I began playing, putting them together to see which ones worked well together. Sometimes just switching one unit for another gave surprising results!
I am sort of short on blue at the moment...may need to get something new to finish up the last of the blocks.

Maggie, if you are making a bunch of these out of the same eight fabrics, you can strip piece them....goes a LOT faster than cutting out a bunch of little squares!
If you have ever strip pieced a log cabin, it's the same technique. Easy peasy!

Thanks for the idea Carole..I was trying to figure out how to do that cuz you're right it makes things go a lot faster. Kinda why I make what I call my protype blocks. Figure out those shortcuts:)

Any time, Maggie! I hate cutting out and sewing together little squares unless there is absolutely no other way...I think I was born to strip piece!

When I read that Maggie only had 61 left to make I reread my instuctions. I think I have misled some of you on the total to make and by reading how I wrote it I can see why! The people in the 2nd group will make the 28 from the first list and then only 10 more because they are in the second group for a total of 38 blocks (14 sets in all) I'm so sorry about this!
