Would it be okay to use cotton for the backing of a flannel baby quilt? We live in the south, and I was thinking that it might keep the blanket from being too hot to use. Would you also use thin batting, or just leave the batting out?
Thanks for any help.

Sure, I don't know why not. And you don't have to put in batting unless you want to. But sometimes when you have air conditioning, it can get cool. Just depends!

I've made lots of baby quilts and used flannel & cotten. Works out just fine. Sometimes for a "blanket" effect I will not use batting or will use warm & natural or soft batting for quilt.

I sometimes put a layer of flannel inside the quilt instead of batting. I cuts down the thickness.

I have usually used a cute cotton baby print for the front and solid flannel for the back of tied baby quilts. I don't know why you couldn't do it the other way around.
