**BEAUTIFUL UNEVEN LOG CABIN

Post by deequilts2 » Mon Jan 26, 2009 4:55 am

I SAW A WONDERFUL UNEVEN LOG CABIN QUILT IN GATLINBURG THAT WAS
UNEVEN (NOT THE CROOKED LOG CABIN PATTERN) IT WAS SMALLER GAUGE
ON ONE SIDE OF THE BLOCK AND BIGGER ON THE OTHER.

I HAVE CHECKED ALL THE BOOKS THAT ARE LOG CABIN RELATED AND CANNOT
FIND THIS PATTERN ANYWHERE. IT SEEMS LIKE THE SIZE GOES FROM SMALL
TO BIG AND THE SAME BLOCK (ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE IS NORMAL SIZE?)

I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR YOU.

IF ANYONE HAS PICTURES OF A QUILT LIKE THIS, PLEASE POST ONE.
THANKS,
DEE

I think my Marti Michelle Log Cabin book has a quilt like you are describing. It's at home and I'm at work so I can't look right at the moment. If you still need info tonight PM me to remind me to look.

I don't have a pattern for "Thick and Thin" log cabin variation, but in the book "Log Cabin Quilts Unlimited" the comment on the page 49 reads:

"The side strips are twice the width of the narrow ones."
The center square is the width of the wider strip.

This results in a square block.
There are other vatiations that result in a rectangular block.

This is not an exact log cabin because of the additional blocks but it does have the information on how to make thick and thin log cabin blocks.

teacups that info is really helpful!! I love the log cabin, too, and I know I have seen the block that Dee is talking about, but for the life of me I can't remember WHERE I've seen it. I'm a big help! lol! But with the directions that teacup provided, you could figure it out.

Easy does it Quilts by Georgia Bonesteel has this pattern with directions.

I used this on the corners of a baby quilt as part of a border. Three squares make 3/4 of a circle.

This can make circles or any pattern that is suggestive of the Drunkard's Path blocks and related patterns.

I have seen it somewhere else, but no longer have the internet page bookmarked. I have seen int in a mag. also.

Search for log cabin blocks, image, instead of text to find it quicker.

Awhile ago I had purchased "Foundation by the Yard" for the Uneven Log Cabin pattern. I bought it at a LQS & the piece I got is supposed to make 20 blocks 32" x 40". You may be able to find this at your LQS. Hope this helps you some. Just googled it & found that it's made by Benartex.
