ironing board cover

Post by grammiequilts » Sat Jan 17, 2009 2:17 pm

Does any one know where there might be an ironing board cover pattern...I know they aren't expensive..but I thought I'd make one double thickness because I keep wearing them out.

Hi,
I found this on the web. Hope it helps or at least gives you some ideas.

If you have your old one you can just cut a pattern from it. I do this all the time and use twill tape to run through the casing to tighten the cover around the board (instead of elastic like some covers have). I like them made from a heavy muslin but the last one I made out of some cotton fabric that I wasn't too crazy about. Be sure and pad it with batting underneath.

Butterick B5160 has an ironing board cover included in the sewing accessories pattern.

***I haven't used this pattern but I do have a really old McCall's pattern that I use. Using it you can cut two ironing board covers from 1 3/4 yds of fabric. I use bias tape (single fold 4 yds per cover) to make a casing then insert 66 inches of 1/4 inch elastic in the casing. I have made lots and use the same pattern and make the padding out of warm and natural. I love cotton ironing board covers because they hold up well and wash nicely.***
