It's Thursday, January 15th

Post by suzette58 » Wed Jan 14, 2009 11:45 pm

Good morning everyone. Well, today is my Friday. With the cold weather the weather man is predicting for us I will stay in and work on my quilt this weekend. This morning it was only 28 when I came into work. Saturday that is supposed to be the high. Have a good day everyone.

PS - With everyone (me included) talking about high electric bills. We at my house are trying the compact floresent lights. The curly ones. We have one in every light except for one in the kitchen. We have not gotten an electric bill yet to see if there is any difference. If there is I will let ya'll know.

We have 8 with a wind chill advisory. It is cold in my house. The coal stove is on but it's hard to get the house to stay warm when it's this cold outside.

My throat is feeling some better today. Mine was short lived compared to Tia. So the plans for today is to have my daughter and the grandchildren down to do art and music. Then the girls are going to make bags. We have three machines and I said I would be the helper.

Later I think I'm going to start the Shakespeare in the Park. I got those yellow geese done and only have to make 6 blue ones that won't take any time at all. I've been itching to get started on this other project. All blues and cream it should be pretty.

Have a great day and stay warm.

-40 oh my. I couldn't even imagine that. We have a high around 10 today and this is hard enough for me. I can't stay out in this stuff too long. Tonight is my guild meeting but it is supposed to be below zero so I am staying home. No need to be out in this cold weather if I don't have to. I will sew on my curtains as much as I can before I get too cold downstairs tonight.

I have lived in my house for 4 years and have a programmable thermostat but it had no book with it so I couldn't set it up. Last night I went on line and got one and was able to program it. I hear it is supposed to help with your heating bills to be able to do this so I will try. I have it going down to 63 at 11pm and it is so cold that it doesn't take too long to get down there right now. I went to bed and lay awake worrying if it would kick back up to 70 at 5 am so not much sleep for me last night. It worked fine but I had to get up at around 2 am for a bathroom run and it was sooooo cold being down to 63. I couldn't wait to get back under the covers. It came up to 70 with no problem this morning.

I have all electric and my current bill is close to $400 so I hope it goes down next month if this program works.

I don't know what wind chills are-but I think it's going to be brutal. The weather channel said -34 but our house says -26. I sure feel bad for DH having to go out to feed livestock. Ds2 is out in it and he had a return of the flu symptons yesterday. DS3 is looking a a 2 or so longer hour drive. Talk about praying without ceasing. DGD is here today. She is a bit cranky. My space ranger fabric arrived yesterday for my superman quilt. The stars glow in the dark!! This is going to be fun!!! Sandy, staying warm-and thinking it's a good day to bake cookies.

Good morning. Brrrrrrrrrrrr y'all are making me so cold talking about -40 and zero temperatures. We have an electric blanket and we don't get nearly as cold as y'all down here.

On one of my Canton trips I bought us 4 Java mugs from Fiestaware. DH broke one last week so I just got online and ordered 3 more and a bowl. I bet he'll be more careful from now on - LOL.

Momof6 - I can't remember what Shakespeare in the Park looks like but I remember that I liked it a lot. Glad your throats are getting better.

Me - do you have to go in to work? 40 Below is just ungodly!

Brenda - I hope your thermostat will help your electric bill. I think we will have the fireplace going the next couple of nights. It really helps keep the greatroom and kitchen warm.

Suzette - we will be colder tomorrow but Sat. & Sun. we will be in the 60's. Yea!

I'd better get to work. BBL

Our high today will only be 28' & I know that's higher than alot of you, but still too darn cold. I see some wind blowing too, so I know it feels even colder out there. I have a stamp class tonight, but am staying home, as I don't know what I might have to deal with on the drive back home later, besides, it's just too cold to be out if you don't absolutely have to be! Got a top border done on this scrappy batik I have been building & really like it! Got smart this time, doing this lap in two sections, so it will be easier to quilt on my machine, then I can sew the two together, & quilt a little around that seam, if I need to. Can't wait to get this one finished, & then I can deliver it to our friend, hopefully before her chemo starts! Not sure what I want to start working on next, but I am on a roll, so far this year, so I plan to keep at it!

Stay warm & safe everyone!

Nancy....

Hi Everyone!
All of you sound sooo cold! I wish I could send you some of the warm weather we are having and you could send us some rain!!!

Yesterday I finished the mini-charm tote I was making. Oh I just remembered I get to put a capital "done" next to it in Stashbusters! That will make me happy today. It was a project I just could not seem to get motivated to finish and yet I knew I had to get it done!
Today I will work on tossed nine patch quilt and pin baste it. I also think I will sew a few of the Birds in the Air. Oh now that sounds like fun!!

Stay warm everyone! Happy quilting!!

Hi everyone!! It's COLD here, too, right now it's 12 deg., but I believe it's supposed to drop.

Brenda good luck with the thermostat settings! I've turned off the TV if we are not watching (always leave it running..I like the sound!lol!). Our gas and electric was over $600 last month.

All of you going to work today be careful! I always worry about the car breaking down and having to be in this super cold weather...

Grammie I've always wanted to make a scalloped border...they look sooo pretty and adds so much to the look of a quilt, BUT by the time I get to the final border, I chicken out! Let me know how it turns out!

Momof6 - I can't remember what a Shakespeare in the Park looks like either...is there a photo of one on here somewhere??

Well, first thing this morning, DH was looking for a cookie to eat with his coffee and pulled one out of the cookie jar from WAY before the holidays! YUK! So we pulled out the 2 rolls of Raspberry Swirls cookie dough that I made at Christmas that were in the freezer. He cut them and I put them in the oven to bake. (I really don't think I was even awake yet! lol!). So they are cooling now...

Last night I sorted some more baskets of scraps..emptied 2 more baskets and put the measured strips in the photo boxes that I labeled. I'll be doing this FOREVER!! lol!!

I ran across a piece of fabric with "Fishing Sams" and patchwork blocks printed on it..a "cheater" type fabric in blues, whites and red. My friend has her little GS alot and I made him an applique Nautical quilt for his birth, but want to make a good utility type quilt to really USE. This will be perfect, I think! Not much work to do...just quilt around all the figures and straight lines. It's all ready to quilt, so I need to get at that today...

Ya'll have a great day! Stay WARM (except you all down under!!lol!)
