Re: ROUND #3 for the PILLOWCASES PROJECT- WE DID IT!!!!!!!!!
I have 32 done and 6 more cut and ready to go. But I have an important question. Should we wash them before sending? I am thinking some of the chemicals on the fabrics might not be good for the troops. Plus if we wash them, won't they be softer on a possible injuried skin?

Audrey- I've been leaving that decision up to the individuals who are making the pillowcases. However, I wholeheartedly agree that the fabric would probably have fewer chemicals and it would probably be softer if the fabric was indeed washed. But- I am NOT going to turn any pillowcases away if the fabric isn't washed!!!!!! (Some people like the crispness of the fabric -and color- when it is not washed.) I will still leave the final decision of 'washing vs. not washing' to those who are sewing up the pillowcases.

PS Are you sure you're not operating a pillowcase factory there, Audrey????!! Wow, 32 completed pillowcases is a staggering amount! You go, Girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I now have 41 of them in the wash with a smig of downey. I don't want it over powering for them but wanted to make them a bit softer. I will try and get them in the mail tomorrow.

I will have my husband take a picture of them and post them when he gets home. I have learned a few little tricks to keep the cost down on doing this. I don't just go out and buy all of the fabrics at once and then kill my budget for the month. When I go to a fabric store I look in the remnant section and pick up fabric that can be used for the cuffs or accent pieces. When I go to a quilt show I try to always buy a little here and there for the troops. I put them all in one plastic container for when Marcia is having another pillow case drives. That way I don't blow the budget and I know right where my "troop fabric" is and I can get started right away! I hope this helps because I know budgets can be really tight these days!

I hope you all can dig a little deeper and make a pillow case or two more. Then send them onto our troops that keep us safe in our homes day in and day out! Please remember that they are going to our troops that are injured and in a hospital in a country far away from their homes and family.

I would have to say that washing is a good idea, even though I hate to iron anything, anytime. It is just better for tender skin. I have nine done, washed, pressed and in the medium flat rate box, but guess what? There is room for a few more to ride along for free! So I will hold onto them for now and make enough more to get the most out of the postage. Meanwhile, you know they're coming. Deb

Thanks for sharing. OH MY they are awesome! You even put the accent band on them. I get lazy and leave that off when I am in a hurry to get these done. You put me to shame. I'll have to do better next time.
The fabrics are just great and your idea of buying a little at a time is great. Thanks for the hint. I'll do better next time. I always have patrioic fabric so I can usually make a few. I love this project also and love to help with it.
Have a good day.
