ISO: Fast ideas using sweatshirt fabric

Post by mtpaper »

I am making 5 throws for a friend of mine - her mother died and had a zillion sweatshirts that we want to use.

I thought I would use the logos and make traditional 'memory' quilts, with the focus on the logo.

Now I realize that the logo is unimportant to them - it's just the idea of having quilts from her sweatshirt collection, so I am looking for alternative ideas.

Do you have any recommendation for a fast and easy pattern to use with sweatshirt fabric?

Thank you!

Did the lady like flowers or gardening? Maybe a simple applique or machine embroidery of a flower on a few and leave the others plain. There must be a few logos that could be used, too. The one she wore the most, or family commented on the most. I don't have a quick and easy pattern suggestion, sorry.
Good Luck!

I made a rag quilt using old sweatshirts. I used interfacing to stabilize each square of sweatshirt fabric. Don't put interfacing in seam allowance area that is cut for the 'rag effect.' The sweatshirt fabric will not fray when washed. The quilt will be heavy for its size, so don't make it too large.

Hope this helps. Rather than making a masterpiece, this kind of quilt is cherished for the memories.
