for a wall hanging I use just about anything... I have never worked with muslin but have sewn scraps together for a backing or a piece of fabric I dont really care for.... whatever I have works against the wall........Can't wait to see yours

Thanks Chriss, I have plenty of scraps so I'll probably do that :)

Just whatever you want to use. It is a good way to use scraps. You could piece some scrappy blocks and then turn it over on the backside after the Christmas Holidays are over. Get that much more use out of it. Reversable.

I really don't like piecing backs, unless there is no other way to get around it...at that point in a project, I am ready to push ahead and finish. Having to stop and piece out a backing feels like a big pain!

I have some placemats I am working on...I'm going to use some "ugly" fabrics for the backs. The backs don't have to match and I doubt I am going to use these particular fabrics for anything else...get them gone! LOL

I'm with you Carole. I've seen some really pretty pieced backs on quilts, but I don't have the patience. I try to buy wide backing whenever I find it on sale.

I use muslin alot--way cheaper. I'm with you, CaroleJ, I'm anxious to get to quilting by then! I use premium muslin because I have used it alot on bed quilts and it needs to be a good quality to hold up.
