Doll Quilt Pattern

Post by Chrissy1 » Wed Sep 03, 2008 6:08 am

Would anyone be able to please direct me as to where I might purchase a quilt pattern for a doll size quilt.(or have a doll size quilt for sale) I have a wonderful baby doll a dear friend sent me. I am really not experienced at all with quilting (just fake it but I don't do too bad a job). I would prefer something simple. I would have to purchase it off the internet as I am still unable to drive (which gives me more sewing time :) Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

You could always use a quilted placemat for a doll quilt. Cracker Barrel and Target have some really cute ones with scalloped borders for around $3.00, Amie

Just do a simple patchwork like 2 1/2" squares of fabric randomly sewn together until you get the size you want. Then, cut batting and backing material the same size as the top. Lay down the backing material, face up. Then lay down the quilt top face down. (The top and backing will be facing each other.) Then lay the batting down on top. Stitch 1/4" (approximately) all the way around leaving a 4" gap. Very carefully clip the corners. Using the 4" gap, turn the little quilt top inside out. You can just put your hand in the 4" gap (make sure your hand is in between the top and the backing material) and reach all the way to the end of it, grab it and pull it through the gap. Smooth out the little quilt, and then do a slip stitch to close the 4" gap. Then just tack or tie the quilt. Some people use yarn and some use embroidery floss.

If my directions are not clear, maybe someone can describe it better than me.

Good luck!

That's a nice and easy way to do a small quilt, Evie. I thought your explanation was very good.

I have a really good doll quilt book. It is entitled American Doll Quilts by Kathleen Tracy. I don't remember where I got it. I have had it for a few years.
