Sandy, I have no mother and have no children. I can only WISH that I had a wonderful daughter like you to make a wonderful quilt like that for me,or that I had a child to make one for. You really need to heed the advice of others here and understand clearly how much that quilt will mean to your Mom. I've always said the only thing perfect about my quilts is the choice I made in who to give them to.

The top, batting, and backing don't make it a quilt. The love is what makes it a quilt. JMHO.

The points that are off don't even show in the first photo! I agree that tying might be a good option. The ties will cover some of those corners. My first quilt looks like that too, but it is still usable. That is what I make my quilts for, to use. You won't feel so bad if it gets soiled and stained with use.

The colors are wonderful.

Here is one half of that quilt and a closeup from the other side showing how off the points are. I tied this.

This was the first full sized quilt that I started, though I finished a simpler one first. It is the only one of my quilts that I didn't give away.

All the hints for better half square triangles are right on. I used a template and shears for this one! I now always make my half square triangle blocks just a little over sized and square them up.

I think your quilt looks great. I am not a big worrier about the points and corners and I have never had any complaints. Your mother will love it because it was made by you for her with love. I quilt to relax and not get stressed out over the points and corners.

I like the colors of your quilt. Sure, some of the points are off, but this is a labor of love for your mom. She'll love it.

If you really want to see some ugly quilts, look at this website:

Sandy, some of the quilts I make STILL have to have that "drive by rule" applied to them, some need to be whizzed by at warp speed! LOL! Honestly, when I saw the first pic of your quilt I thought the design was pretty and the colors looked great! One of the most difficult quilts I've made was done for my dad on Father's Day. He is in the late stages of Alzheimers and I think that's why I had such difficulty making the quilt, I was stressed because of the urgency to make/do, everything now, and I wanted it to be special for him. Everyone is right, it's the love put into a quilt that makes it special. If someone else had made your quilt and you were looking at it, you'd only see the beauty in it and that would out-weigh the minor flaws you see. We're all very critical of our own work, but we can easily appreciate the beauty in other's work! I think we all should love all our quilts, ones that aren't as good as others teach us things to improve our skills, and bottom line...no matter how imperfect a quilt is, ALL quilts are comfort at it's best! In fact, it seems that the quilts with the most flaws are the ones that become favorites! Thanks for sharing pics of your beautiful quilt with us!

Morgans4, I can relate with what you said about grieving twice, when the mind leaves and then again when the body leaves. Dementia/Alzheimers is such cruel diseases that hurt the entire family. I so hope they find a cure soon, I hate to think of all the families who have and are and will experience this, it is truly so very painful and difficult.

your quilt is very pretty. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. You keep on keeping on. As somebody put it in here we are critical of our own work where somebody else don't know the difference. Your Mom will love it and it is certainly made with love. Jan

I love your colors! Have a couple of quilts that have some owies in them, and I wanted to jump off my deck and re-do them. Just got furiuos withmyself and thought, I will never learn how to quilt. I am still trying to line up squares, but learned how to do them on this forum. DUH. Glad your mother liked it. Know we should not be so hard on ourselves, but, we are. Hugs
