What are the different ways to do binding? Is blanket binding an option and would you recoomend it? Thanks again, Jo

I just did my first quilt that I made the binding for. The members here helped me a great deal. I agree 100% with them. Make your own it works so much better. I am going to let them tell you what to do. It's easy.

Premade bindings don't always work too well. The fabrics are usually a cotton/poly blend and just don't have the nice smooth feel of all cotton. Satin blanket bindings, while lovely, are a real pain in the ass to work with (you asked!). Making your own bindings are a bit time consuming, but I think you will be pleased with the results.

If you have a QIAD book, there are instructions for making and applying binding in the back...you DON'T have to cut bias strips...unless you want to.

I started off with 3" wide strips for binding, but now I do 2 1/2"; I like the look of a narrower binding better.

****If you go to Quilting Techniques, I just popped a discussion on binding back to the top for you to read. Might help.
You can do this! We'll talk ya through it!

Hey CarolJ you are absolutely right about the satin binding!!! LOL
I couldn't say it better myself!
Very first baby quilt I made with a satin binding. It was horrible! I did it, but what a job. I fought that sucker for HOURS!
After that, making my own binding was a piece of cake.
Do read the posts and try it, Jo, just take your time...you'll get it!

Make your own binding and it will cost less and look best.
