Opinion Needed
Hello Everyone,
I am very new to this forum and very new to quilting. I have this question to put out to everyone who quilts. Which batting is best to use in a quilt regular cotton batting or warm n natural batting? Value all your opinions. Thanks.
Jo

Jo, welcome to the forum!
I love Warm and Natural; it's the only batting I have ever used. Takes both hand and machine stitches beautifully, lightweight, but quite warm. Breathable so you don't get damp under it.
Look for it on sale and buy by the yard, rather than in precut lengths. Better price.
I get so excited for new quilters! Jump in and have fun!

CaroleJ,
Thank you for your opinion on the warm and natural. I will be looking for it on sale and buying by the yard. Thanks again.

I too love Warm and Natural. It's warm in the winter, yet is still cool enough to sleep under in the summer. I've used Quilters Dream, but it seems to be a bit pricy. I dislike poly bats - too fluffy -- and I can't imagine quilting one.
BTW -- I only machine quilt, so I'm not sure what I'd use if I was going to hand quilt.

Batting by the yard is on sale at Joanns over Labor Day weekend. 50% off. Starts August 29.

I agree with knitnoid - whatever you do, stay away from the 100% polyester!
I've tried a few different blends (such as 80% cotton and 20% poly), and they were all very nice. So is the 100% cotton, which I actually think I like the most of them all. Not because it makes a big difference when mchine quilting, but there's something about the quilt that feels even more natural when it is also filled with 100% natural fibers.
I have yet to try wool batting, I have a feeling it would be very nice too!
Good luck with your quilt!

I use Warm & Natural, just love the stuff! Sometimes I prewash and sometimes I don't. Depends on the finished look I want.

I have never washed the Warm and Natural...but I'm not an obsessive type either. The label says there is 2-4% shrinkage (I think). I try to wash all my quilts before I send them to their new homes; haven't noticed any problems with shrinkage as yet.
The Warm and Natural is also easy to work with if you want to tie the quilt. I use darning needles, embroidery floss, and leather thimbles.
