Oh my God, I can't believe something like that would happen. Hope you can get it straightened out. Guess there is more competition in the quilting world than I thought.

Now that I have picked my jaw off of the floor, I will say that I am just speechless at this woman's gall and guts!!!!!! Brazen huzzy isn't she? I would def. make everyone aware of this. Newspaper included with names. This kind of stuff should not happen and can ruin Fairs from having entries. Geez! Is anything legal and right anymore? This is just awful! Heck yes we support you here. All the way! My tummy is doing flipflops over this. You do have a local Newspaper? Submit an article about this with her name and what she admitted to, in it. See if her arrogance level is so high then. The nerve of her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GGRRRRRRR I am so sorry for you. I really am. I sure hope they do something to her and something to make this right with you ladies. This just floors me. Please keep us posted. I sure am sorry!

Oh my gosh!!! I can hardly believe what you are saying, that is the most blantent thing I have ever heard of any one doing. Cathy 32078, didn't you see my jaw laying right beside yours? I am not a person to wish bad on anyone, even if I don't care for them, but I hope this lady really gets hers. I really hope you have it put in the paper too, because if this lady (and I use that term loosly) gets by with it, what will she do to the quilters next year? Let us know how it turns out. Linda

Well I am so sorry that happened to you. Hope things work out. As for the money I doubt if you or other winners that was cheated will see any of it.
Here at our county fair (103rd year) all the women that worked here are the from the local women club. Yea, they enter , they help, they sometimes win. But one quilt top I had put in and had the number and name on it , book states, they handed me the paper back and one wrote down in book the other lady offered to write the ticket. Yea , she wrote the wrong number group.
When I went in a couple days later, was told by a worker who wrote it down, stated that the Judge really liked the quilt top, (not quilted) , but it was in the wrong group. I said BUT THERE IS ONLY THE ONE QUILT TOP ENTRY.
She checked the ticket on it then and someone put down in quilted group. Pissed me off.
Gee , I could have won a total of $3.00 for first prize.
Yea thats it the first place only paid $3.00 . I did win a total of $12.00 in all I entered. The quilt top was the only thing I did not get it in. Yea, they said bring back next year, they would do better.
NOT.
Hope things work out better for you anyway.

Wow! That is sad! I might expect that in a large county. We have the Los Angeles County Fair which is huge but I've never heard of anything like that happening. It's too bad a few old biddies have to ruin it for all. Hopefully, they will do the right thing and make sure the judging is fair and stays the way they judge it.

I hope they do right by you!

oh my. I can't imagine this but since she admitted it she obviously thinks that she is more qualified then the judges. I have seen quilts at fairs that are decked in ribbons that I don't care for and ones I love standing there without a ribbon...it is sometimes a personal taste but when a judge is selected they are the only one who should have a say. I can't imagine how angry that judge must be too because it is her name that was sullied too..hopefully yu can let the judge know what happened too

and I would stay away from any guild that woman is part of too

I don't know if there is any prize money at our county fair, but someone wrote to the editor of the paper about how she was required to frame her needlework for the fair and thought that meant that the pieces would be hung in the area they were displayed. But no, they were placed on wobbly tables on top of other entries -- quilts and afghans that could have been damaged by the corners of the frames -- and could have been knocked off the tables and crashed on the floor. That lady was NOT happy.

But changing who won what at the fair is UNfair! Sounds like they need a system of checks and balances so no one can change anything except the judge(s). I agree with sewcarolyn that some of the quilts I saw seemed to deserve the ribbons more than some that received them. And I agree with all the others who said it, make sure the fair, the judge(s), and the community know what happened. I don't know about a law suit, but DO write a letter to the newspaper (or even talk to a local human interest reporter). This kind of thing should not happen again.

I am so sorry this happened to you. Unfortunately, it doesn't surprise me. It's happened before to a friend of mine - at the county fair level. I haven't heard of it happening at the Nebraska state fair.

WOW!!!!!!! That was definitely the wrong thing to do!!!!!!!!!! We should all pray for her. She probably 'fessed up to doing it because her conscience was getting the better of her. God has a way of convicting our hearts when we do such despicable things. I pray the fair will do right by those of you who really should have won. Good luck in getting it resolved.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. It's sad to believe that there are people like that. Lori
