Sister-in-law's quilt-Garden of Memories

Post by khowardquilts » Wed Jul 30, 2008 4:33 pm

This quilt contains fabrics, yo-yos, and lace from a number of family friends. This was my first full sized quilt that I hand quilted, I did my own designs. The flowered print was a dress that I had made for my sister-in-law years before. The flowers are all one pattern with different centers, but there are six different leaves. The flowers are backed with fusable interfacing for ease of turning the edges and I wanted the slight 3-d affect. The leaves just fused down (except one set where I ran out of fusable and used interfacing. They are stitched around with many different hand stitches.

This was a learning experience, you can see on the close up, that the hand quilting doesn't show much on the busier prints.

If you are new to hand quilting I would suggest using a busy print on the back of your quilt. Any uneven stitches won't show as much. I had plenty of those!

I love it. I love the variation of the flowers and leaves. Your hand quilting looks great, too. Nice quilt. Is this a quilt you are keeping for yourself?
