Yes the book I used was by Maine Rosenthal. It's title is "One Block Wonders" I used 4 1/2 to 5 yards of material. The top is approx. 58" x 80"

I sewed everything in strips. I sewed three out of the six triangles together on one strip and then I sewed the other three on the next strip. When the two strips were done, I lined them up and sewed them together creating the hexagons. It's easier than it sounds.

Talk about luck....I was at my girlfriend's house yesterday and I was telling her about this method. She said she had won a book at a retreat and thought maybe it might be what I was looking for. Wouldn't you know....it was the ONE BLOCK WONDER book. Looking forward to giving it a try.

Maybe I just didn't look hard enough, but did she give directions on how to make those cube blocks that she puts in a lot of her quilts? It finally all makes sense to me.

Unfortunately, the instructions for the hollow cubes aren't included in the book. The directions were provided in the course I took

Erin, I have never sewed this block and I like it very much! What appeals to me is the fact that it is a very economical technique - no waste in fact ... At least this is what I am told by my friend making this quilt currently - you "just" cut 60degree triangles in rows. Then re-arrange them - she is going to put the darkest ones in one corner and the lightest values in another ... A question if I may: Was it easy to meet all the points when sewing it in ROWS? And didn´t you get dizzy and disorganized with those tens of various small triangles? Gee! My friend is sewing the hexagons first! Of course it is more complicated, she has to be careful not to sew to the edge of the pieces so that she is able to join the hexagonslater - using the Y-seam, ugh .... Please, advise!

Oh, I forgot to say that those triangles are cut out of SIX layers of fabric parallelly - you then get six times six identical triangles and can rearrange them into hexagons as you please - each hexagon is different and it is very creative and exciting! (Of couse, you have to be very careful pinning the fabric together very precisely so that the pattern in individual layers matches.)
