
I had a tough time also changing the first needle.

I ended up unplugging the espire and laying it on it's back to see if there was anything keeping the needle in it's place.
You can use a needle nose plyer, hemostat or sturdy tweezers to pull the needle out as straight as possible.
laying it on her back gives you also a better view of what way to face the flat part of the needle.
Next needle change goes a lot smoother after that.
Tsk Tsk Ann, you used a needle for ALL those geese plus all other projects you have been sewing. <grin> just teasing you a 'little'.
