Sea Life Quilt- All ironed down and ready to stitch around! 6-13-08

Post by apolta » Wed Jun 11, 2008 2:39 pm

This is Jake's Sealife Kelp Forest Quilt... him and his Dad go skin diving and kayaking out in the kelp beds all the time... I had cute little appliques already picked out for the quilt and Jakob informed me they didn't look like real fish and that they looked fake... so I had to hunt down drawing of "REAL" fish that ACTUALLY live in the kelp forest and make my own appliques... geesh! I will have to do some serious decorative stitching to make the appliques stand out... still a long way to go but I'll get there!
All ironed down and ready for sewing

Close up of the sheepshead fish... Jake favorite!

Close up of the kelp... that was REAL fun cutting out! There was supposed to be more of it... but my sanity couldn't take it!!!

Cheers!

Alina, the quilt will be beautiful. I love the fabrics. I don't blame you for only doing the small amount of kelp, I would've done the same thing.

Alina, *GREAT* job. I Love it.
Now are you going to applique a picture of Eric and jake in there that are skindiving?

You have the patience of an angel.

A very pretty quilt. I love the colors you used. I especially like the jellyfish. I don't think I could have done that much kelp.

Absolutely gorgeous!! You have such talent!

I made a sea life quilt in summer of 2005 at my dying mother's request. She was a prolific quilter and up until 2005 I admired her work but was not really interested. Summer of 2005 I moved home to care for her in her last days and she wanted to finish a quilt for my cousin who had had a bike accident and was a paraplegic. In the process of completing the quilt, she must have transferred the quilting gene to me because I have been obsessed/possessed by quilting ever since. My mother was able to design and paint the fish/sea life but my sister and I did all the water designing and I did all the sewing. Unfortunately my mom never got to see the finished product.
