Question re. Pot holders

Hi everyone,
I have a question. When you make pot holders using the insul-bright, do you use 2 pieces or 1? Also with the insulbright do you layer warm & natural along with it?

I have some unused blocks I want the DGK to sew into potholders for Father's Day. Any help would be appreciated.

On the ones that I have made I used 1 layer of insulbrite and 1 layer of cotton batting. I assemble it so that the cotton batting is on the bottom of the potholder ) Hope this helps

I don't have access to InsulBright but we do have a similiar product. I was advised to use an isulating layer AND a cotton batting layer. The insulating layer I put right under the quilt top.

Also, a little tip - I've read about lots of people using orphan blocks to make potholders and they back them with denim. It's cheaper, they say, a recycled craft AND is stronger than plain cotton on the back. Of course, you might prefer to make your potholders double sided.

Dawne, good idea on the denim. I have an old sundress out of denium that I had cut up for "something". I will let the grandkids use it on the potholders for daddy. )

I have wondered about this also. Now, if I want it to be reversible, should I had a second layer of insulbrite on the other side? Is there a right and wrong side to it?

I used insulbrite on some potholders and the instructions on the insulbrite package say to use one layer of regular fabric, one layer of insulbrite, and one layer of cotton batting and then your other outer layer of fabric. The cotton batting will go on the closest to the bottom piece of outer fabric. Only one layer of insulbrite is necessary and cotton batting....not necessarily warm and natural brand to absorb the moisture from heat. That's it.....happy quilting.
