What inspires you to make a quilt? UPDATE w. CindyB's pics

Post by HomespunMary » Sun May 25, 2008 11:11 am

CindyB asked this great question in the Chit chat forum, and I thought it would be so fun to see pics of things that inspire us to use in quilts!

Since it is spring here, and the weather was lovely today, I went out with my camera to find inspiration for my next quilt (want to make something with flowers and feather/spiral motifs).

I got far more than I bargained for, LOL! There's soooo much out there for inspiration! I already posted a few flower pics in CindyB's thread, but here's a few others (well, more than a few, actually, LOL) of my inspirational motifs... I love both the colors and the shapes, and I can see them all used in various ways in quilts :-)

Spirals and feather inspiration from above church door:

Both feathers and flowers:

Another old door:

Old fence:

Yet another old door (how's this for a border design?):

Pillar outside an old hotel (I can see this as a quilt block!):

And a lot more quilt blocks just waiting to be made:

All of these various "brick works" could be strip pieced, LOL:

And, how's this (entrance to the cathedral) for a cool block - and cool sashing!!!

Sorry for posting so many pics, but I can assure you I really tried to be restrained... (There's plenty more where these came from, LOL!) I just got so carried away with all of today's inspiration :-)

So, now it is your turn! Would love to see your inspirational pics!

*Smile*

WoW Maria, thanks for posting these pictures and ALL the inspirations that come with them. I like the 'old' rose color with the square pattern border motive.

Those quilt blocks (in concrete) and th striped shashing, I would never have thought of that.

I think and hope you'll go a solid go off it to practise making that quilt for you Mom. I have seen your work (and your viking saphire 870 sewing machine). You are So creative.

Thanks for all this inspiration. Now *I* want to take my camera out to town. Maybe I could get you some of the Spanish inspirations on pictures.

Take care, cause I care.

Hi Maria, WOW!! I love your pictures. I believe the cathedral is my favorite but the black door and the fence below it are wonderful too. They are all great pictures. I have a lot of architectural type pictures that I love to go through and look at the details for inspiration. Thanks for sharing.

Been a while since I have been on here. I came home from the quilt show way behind on our quilts for church so I've been super busy. Glad to see you here. Would love the see some more of your ideas. You are so creative.

Mary, thank you for posting all your inspirational pictures! I have been thinking about what to do for the wide outside border on a wall quilt I have made. Haven't found a fabric I like, so was thinking about a pieced border. The pictures of the wall with the brick work really got my mind going...!

I will mull this over a while longer; I know the answer will present itself if I let it.
