I inherited a huge stash of fabric from my sister and Mother. I know my sister quilted and my mom sewed clothing. How can I tell which is 100% cotton and which is a blend? Unfortunately, neither is around to ask anymore. Some are obviusly polyester but I can't tell on others. I seem to recall once that my Mom mentioned something about polyester melting if you put a match to it? Is that true and is there any other test? Thanks in advance.

Re: Is it 100% cotton?
According to a video of El's, take a small portion of the fabric and burn part of an edge:
Wool doesn't burn at all
Polyester has a hard knubby feel after it's burnt
Cotton will fray after burning
Just keep a glass of water handy!! LOL

Thank you Suz,
I'll be sure to be near the sink to test them.
