i dont use startch - i will dampen and iron and that will hold it place to keep from stretching for a crisp feel and look in my curtains i add epson salts to the rinse have never felt compelled to do this for quilts

Sizing is at the grocery store in the laundry aisle. QIAD also sells the Mary Ellen's clear starch alternative.

On Simply Quilts there was an episode with hints for quilters and one was about using spray starch. If you use spray starch while piecing it was recommended to wash the quilt when it is finished, to remove the starch because it attracts bugs. If the quilt is for display and will not be washed then you should use spray sizing.

I was told by a quilting teacher that sizing is not as heavy as starch and is much easier on your sewing machine which I never thought of. I was also told that starch atracks bugs. I don't know why that would be but I don't want to take any chances so I use sizing now. I am not sure if the sizing does the same thing so I will need to check into that.
