Prewash Batiks?

Post by SFOQuilter »

I generally don't pre-wash anything except for baby quilts. What about Batiks? I am about to embark on my first batik quilt.

I wouldn't worry about it Michelle - they are an even tighter weave than cotton

Thanks for the replies. I found online a little test and my fabric passed so I think I'll skip on pre-washing. I cut a 2 inch piece of my darkest fabric and ran it under hot water and pressed it dry between white paper towels. Nothing. Not a hint of running. And since this quilt will be for me (finally)I know I will never be washing it in hot water.

I washed mine for the quilt I did because it was a mix of cottons and batiks. The only thing I found with the batiks was that it stretched when I was sewing so I had to be careful

Ohhhhh I love batiks. What pattern are you going to use? BTW - i always pre-wash everything unless the pattern says not to. That's just my own little quirk.
