Sewing table....
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to make a sewing table? I have a Janome portable machine but I'd like it to fit flat along the table top like when a machine is in a cabinet. If I'm going to be doing a lot of sewing (and hopfully I will) it would make it a lot easier to be able to use my machine. I know you girls will be able to solve this problem in no time so thanks in advance.....Jan in Punxsy PA

Hi Jan,
Just want to say I hope that you got to see Punxsy Phil! I was disappointed in his forecast, but. . .
As for the table, if you don't want to make one, you can buy a "plastic" (it isn't really plastic, but I can't think what it's called, it's clear) extension table that fits around part of the machine and makes an extension. I know they make them for Janome because I have one. Makes it a lot easier to sew on and was a lot easier for me than making a table, since I have a very nice table for my machine. This way I can easiyly take the side of the machine off and be able to use the "smaller" arm for small circular things.
Just a thought. carol/kittyquilt

No I didn't get to see Phil. And that was OK by me. Cause I wanted to shoot him! I wanted to make a post about my day but didn't want to be OT. Then I discovered there was actually a place just for such posts. I'll have to see is I can get one of those inserts and have my brother make an extension for my table. Will probably have to cut the legs down some. Thanks Littlebit That was a good link. I can't explain things real good so my I can just send that to my brother and he can figure it out..........jan

Would love to hear about your day! Post it in the ChitChat section. There are quite a few of us from PA and I'm sure everyone would love to hear why you wanted to shoot the poor little guy, just doing a job! LOL carol/kittyquilt

I bought a door at Lowe's without the hole cut out for the knob that I use. Cost about $30.00. Works for me cause i can spread my quilt out.

My DH made a sewing table for me out of a pine kitchen table. If he can do it, it can be done. He is a welder, not a carpenter LOL
You should be able to see it here. There's more than 1 picture of it in my photo album. I ordered an acryllic insert for my machine from my LQS.

He recently had to revise it when I upgraded my machine. I didn't get a new insert, but stuck some foam board in the gap snugly.

Thanks Carol, I like that idea. I have to get a friend to make it because hubby can tear the gas company apart piece by piece and put it back together but don't let him change your oil LOL. I also have to check at LQS to see if she can order the plastic insert. Hummmm..another reason to go to LQS. Like I really need a reason...jan

The Keepsake Quilting catalog has plans for a build your own sewing table. I have been drooling over it for YEARS. Even has a well to set your machine in so it's level with the tabletop...
