There she was just a-walkin' down the street
Singin' Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do
Snappin' her fingers and shufflin' her feet
Singin' Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do
She looked good (looked good), she looked fine (looked fine)
She looked good, she looked fine and I nearly lost my mind

Helping Dad move yesterday and what did I come across. My Beatles "Let it Be" record. I no longer have a record player so don't know what I'll do with it.

WeSig, an original Beatles on vinyl? My impulse would be to keep it in a very, very safe place---but I am a Beatles' fan from the word go. Other options: have it burned onto a CD so you can listen to it, or sell it on E-bay.

The drawback of old records: a master tape was made in the studio and kept in a vault after some initial copies were made for distribution by the record company. Then copies were made of copies, more copies made of those copies...and with each generation, the sound quality and details diminished.

I grew up hearing Simon and Garfunkel and bought their records when I began buying them for myself. Listened to them to the point that I knew every word and every note on every album. Fast forward to Christmas of 1999 or 2000, when a S&G collection was released, 3 CD's taken from the original studio masters...what a difference! I was hearing details and colors in the music I had never heard before.

Just my fat quarter...

Didn't Bob Dylan write that ... it had something to do with seeing Anthony Quinn playing an Eskimo in a movie. That sounds whacked, but I think it's right. lol

CaroleJ, Oh boy, do you bring back memories!!!! I have been listening to the 70's on DirecTV in the AM. On Sat mornings they play the top 40 from Casey Kasem. They have the original count downs & it is great. For those that have DirecTV the 70's are on channel 804. Others are on there too. You can get the 50's, 60's and a couple different country stations. I am not sure if all the packages from DirecTV has these stations. It sends me back that's for sure.

My brother who passed away last fall had a collection of over 3000 vinyl 45's. Some were from his collection when he was a teen in the 50's. Being the youngest in the family he was gracious enough to share his love of music with me. I learned how to do the twist from him. He was worse than teenagers with the loud music. You always knew he was home because he had the music up so loud the windows vibrated!!

It is amazing how music brings back so many lost and forgotten memories & feelings. It is just like a smell or taste!!

Thanks for the memories!!

Sharon, everyone in my family was VERY into music. My dad played several brass instruments; Ma was in the choir at UC Berkeley. My brother loved the heavy metal sound...Foghat and Vanilla Fudge stand out in my memory. My sister preferred Simon and Garfunkel and The Moody Blues...we splurged on tickets to go see the Moodies next month and we are bringing the kids!

I love all of it, though modern country, the blues, and classic rock'n'roll are my favorites. I have noticed as I have gotten older, my tastes go more to the harder stuff, and rock with a blues influence, like AC/DC and Led Zeppelin and The Who. Nothing like listening to "Won't Get Fooled Again" during an election year--!

Sharon ... what a nice little story about your brother. On a blue day when you're missing him, put on some Chubby Checker and do the twist ... it'll make you smile. :)
