Re: UFO Support Group
I was working in organizing my sewing and a UFO jumped out to get me - it has been lurking for more than 20 years - It is a quilt for my husband that I started many moons ago. I guess after I get son's done I will have to take on the antique UFO!!!

Re: UFO Support Group
While running errands I realized that the quilt is closer to 30 years old as it was done long before my youngest, now 22 was born

Posting in with PROGRESS!
Got out my coffee mug quilt yesterday to do an assessment...the May and October blocks still needed a little embellishment. Sooo, I knuckled down, got out the embroidery hoop, and finished both of them off. Mission accomplished!
THEN, it was time to address the problem of the marks left from the marking pencils that had not yet come out completely, despite several attempts. I got out Grandma's Secret Spot Remover and just squooshed it all over any remainders of the marks. Put some warm water and just a drop of detergent in a basin, took a deep breath, and in went the quilt top.
Disclaimer: normally I NEVER wash quilt tops, and I don't recommend it! It is very risky. However, I was willing to take the chance if it meant getting the marks off once and for all. I have had other projects ruined because I used various types of markers that were recommended, and then the marks never came out of the finished piece.
Anyway, I swooshed the quilt around gently, sort of worked the suds through, then let it soak for about 10 minutes. Rinsed and rinsed until the water ran clear. Wrapped it in a towel and blotted, then hung it up...and I think the marks are GONE. WHEW! I felt very optimistic and cut out binding strips yesterday afternoon.
Now it is ready to layer, spray/pin baste, and machine quilt! Yee-ha! I have some other "should do's" on my list...and now all I wanna do is stay home this weekend and finish my quilt!

Jana, I haven't been quilting that long, so none of my projects have had a chance to age to that degree...LOL
The worst one is the Purple Horror, a quilt I started for my nephew and his wife, easily 4 years ago. Crap on a crust, I really ought to finish that thing...or use it for kindling...or something...

Re: UFO Support Group
I wish I could say I am really hopping on my UFO that is on the quilting frame. I get the urge while I am at work and then when I come home make dinner, wash dishes, I just flop in my chair and stare at the wall or the tube until I go to bed. Last Sunday I did remove all of the little items that were thrown across the top and has been cleared for quilting. Maybe tonight will be the night. I need to get back into the habit of a little stitching each night.

I have a christmas exchange block sample that is put together, just need to quilt it. Then have my first samler that I worked on when I took care of Kevin Costner's children when he was in Rapid City making DANCES WITH WOLVES. Blocke had been put together, et, quilted by machine, buy a lady who was learning and you can tell. Just have to put binding on it. Could b doing it now, but in storage in daughter's garage. will be a fall project unless I can find it when weather gets warmer and I gcan hunt for it. Also a bear paw kind of quilt, not finished or Quilt As You Go quilt.
Good projects for fall. One to put the one I workerd on when sitting for Coster's children on my bed.
hugs

Re: UFO Support Group
Well, my ufo's have multiplied - and no one can tell me that they can't do it on their own. I walked into my sewing room this morning and could swear they had multiplied overnight! LOL!
In reality, I'm washing and ironing all my fabric and trying to divide everything up into sections - fat quarters, designated fat quarters, designated material, panels, etc. I'm think a little organization can't hurt. But will it help? News at 11!

I love to spend a day organizing my fabric. It makes me look at all the wonderful fabric and I can dream about what I would make with each piece. Thinking about making quilt tops, is that productivity? UFO's of the mind!!!
