I buy lots of quilting fabric, patterns, and notions at estate sales, but have never seen a quilt that beautiful at one. I love the way it is put together. I have a quilt similar to this that my grandmother made from my clothes when I was a kid. It's one of my most precious quilts.

Late Friday night my husband found a listing on Craigs List for an estate sale which listed quilts and quilt tops. Yep, I was there at 9 AM. This is what I came home with:

I spoke with the daughter and she knew her mom didn't make it, but had no idea where it came from. The blocks are hand pieced, then set together by machine. As I was folding it up this afternoon, I realized that one side is longer than the other. I tracked it down to a full diamond at the top on the left instead of a half diamond on the left.

I have no idea how I'm going to quilt this, so it's going on my stack of things to do.

Very pretty. I stopped at an Estate sale the other day and they had a
"Grandmother's Fan" quilt that was pieced and quilted by hand. It looked to be original 1930's fabric. There was definately some ware but still usuable. It really needed a good pressing too. They were asking $200. I know nothing about the value of older quilts so I passed it up. Did I boo-boo do you think?

I think $200 is probably high if: it had holes, stains, worn binding, "poor quilting", quilt not square (won't lay flat) etc etc. Also sometimes what looks like 30's fabric may actually be 70's fabric...you have to double check the quality and thread count. BTW I am still looking for a thread counter thingie ever since I read about them here.
