Help needed. How much thread is used in a quilt?

Post by SFOQuilter » Mon Jan 21, 2008 5:19 am

I've been buying large 2000 yd cones fo my HQ 16 mostly in common colors I know I will use a lot. For special, one time quilt colors though how much will I need? I want to buy smaller spools. So say it's a 55 X 75 lap size quilt with an all-over medium meandering. Is there a formula that lets you figure this out or is there anyone really experienced here who can let me know?

Thanks.

Hmmmmmm..........
I'm not sure but before I got my frame and suffered through the ol' push-n-tug quilting sitting the the machine, a 500yd. spool of King Tut was more than plenty to do a lap-twin size quilt. It's been a while but I think that's right. It should be the same on the frame. Amie

I agree with Amie, a 500yd spool should be plenty if your just doing a meander.

it depends on how dense your stitches are i usually buy extra anyway it is amazing how many projects you wind up using it in
