I threw this together ,so its not accurate,just a quick sample,,and if I make them I will add a stem. This is really fun to try on different blocks...

Caroline, I am so glad you like what I have shared! You are doing fine! I have seen whole quilts using this technique, they are called "magnolia" and look beautiful. You can try to use the "peels" also inside the buds or in the corners to add just a tint of the colour you wish to ... If you use them in a rectangular block (in diagonally opposite corners), you will obtain a "leaf" (the the fabric below them will have that form). Good luck and let us know how you proceed!
