batting scraps, keep or toss

Post by sunsup » Fri Jan 11, 2008 3:40 pm

My fabric scraps go to guild for service quilts and the larger pieces of batting too. But I've got alot of smallish pieces. What do the rest of you do with them? I hate to toss them thinking they might come in handy for something.

I saved the scrapy stuff from when I cut 6" circle out of 6" squares and made a pillow for my cat. The other stuff, I save and use for for quilts from the Cotton Theory -- I figure no sense in buying a quilt batt when I've got all these scraps.

I use little scraps of batting to place cut threads on next to my sewing machine. My trash can is next to my cutting table and I don't like throwing threads on the floor or I carry them all over the house on my socks. :) I also did an applique on my embroidery machine recently and it called for a little scrap of batting.

I save them and use the pieces for the postcards that I make and mail :) But I don't save anything smaller than 4 x 6

Sometimes I like to stuff appliqué. The little pieces work great for that.

SadieDaisy - This is a good blog to learn the basics of making postcards :)

Hmmmmmm. Thank you for the ideas. I'm not into applique yet, don't have a cat. Still, I think I'll wait a while before I toss them.

Sandy - I have a pattern for place mats that uses 2" wide strips of cotton batting. And I think Kaye Wood's 6 hour quilt uses strips, too, cotton or poly. See you Wednesday?

I never thought about keeping my scraps. Maybe I will start doing that.
