I bought a new iron UPDATE

Post by sewbug » Wed Jan 09, 2008 6:37 am

It was Jan. of last year I posted about buying this iron and this morning it spurted and hissed like crazy. It went right in the trash. I was thinking about the Oliso? Anyone have that one?
-------------------------------------------------------------------

I decided I wasn't going to spend a fortune on another iron. I bought the Black and Decker Lite and Easy with non stick plate. One reason I chose it was the plate had more solid ironing surface than steam holes. It does not have auto shut off so I keep a night light plugged in with it so I know it's on. I am very pleased with the high temp steam that it does produce, it goes right though the fabric, and my ironing board is a grid metal one and I can see the steam coming from underneath the board through the board cover. After reading several articles on irons I decided to buy one with good steam features, use it up, and buy another. I was doing this with the expensive irons anyway. This iron was $13. Can't beat that.

I got a new cordless Panasonic the only bad thing I could come up with is that it does shut off however considering I forget to turn off the iron all the time its probably for the best. It wasn't to bad either it was like 40.

I had a Maytag cordless and I absolutely loved it - it didn't last 18 months. I told my daughter to get me a Black & Decker steam iron for Christmas and she did. I told her I wanted lots of steam and auto shut-off. I have CRS so the auto shut-off is necessary for me. Anyway, my new iron has a big reservoir so I don't have to put water in it so often. I'm loving it so far.

Interestingly, I searched for the cordless Maytag after reading much raving about it and discovered it has been discontinued. Anyone else here that? I've heard so many good things about the Black & Decker that I think that will be my next one. I have an Oreck now and it spits all the time.

I think I've gone through 3 or 4 irons this year. They start out wonderful, then start spitting, then shut off even when I'm pressing. That Black & Decker is sounding good.

I bought a Black and Decker Classic and I'm very pleased with it. I finally found one that does what I want it to, and it didn't cost a fortune.

Well, I'm heart broken that Maytag has discontinued the best iron ever. I found out that Maytag is not even Maytag anymore. Maytag's now owned by Frigidaire. Well, I guess when it dies, I'll go with the Panasonic. I don't use steam so maybe it'll hold out for me. Hope so. Amie

Carol can you contact the Oreck people and return it for another one that doesn't spit? I think they are suppose to really stand by their products. I've not had any Oreck products but that seems to be what the commercials say.

I have another Rowenta after my last one died after many years of service.
