Egg Money BOM - Block Seven - Double Wedding Ring

Post by Evie » Tue Jan 01, 2008 7:20 am

Okay, everyone, back to the ole' grindstone!

This month is the Double Wedding Ring. It's not difficult, just time consuming.

Best advice I can give is read the entire chapter before you start and give yourself plenty of time.

The one thing I did different from the instructions, is that I pressed the seams open when making the arcs. I did this to reduce bulk and it worked just fine.

I did 3 again.

Reproductions on top, Thimbleberries on left and Batiks on right:

DH says his favorite is the Thimbleberries, mine, this month, is the Reproductions. As you can see, I played with the color. I used the same light fabric on the arcs and alternated the dark fabric. On the Batiks, I used just one fabric. What do you think?

Trimming and turning the arcs is great TV work.

Below is a picture of working on the arcs. Don't worry at this point if your seams don't match up. As you can see, there's a lot of trimming to do. Also, that hemostat is great for turning them.

Don't forget to shorten your stitch length. I shortened mine to 1.5 Also, don't forget to mark your centers.

Next picture is sewing corners. It's oversized and after you have squared up your blocks, if you want, you can go back and trim off the extra fabric to reduce bulk. That's what I did.

Make sure your background fabric is an accurate 13" square. Even though it's oversized and you will be squaring it up, you need it accurate for placement of the arcs and triangles (corners).

Hope these pictures have helped. Any questions, please ask. We're all in this together.

I figure that by posting this on January 1st, that it means I will have my BOM's done on time each month. LOL

Evie, thank you for all the tips. I haven't even read the chapter yet so I will make sure I start with that.

I love all your blocks, but to me this traditional block looks best with your repro fabric. I can't wait to see your tops put together, each one will be so different but I am sure they will all be beautiful.

Evie, You are such a sweetheart and the photos are such a help. I really love all blocks you made, hard to pick a favorite. It will be such fun to see all the blocks together in a completed quilt. You are a wonderful teacher and I wish we lived close enough I could sit with you and learn even more. I can't wait to read the chapter and get started.
Happy stitching!!

I'm blushing! I'm learning on these too. What really helps is watching the DVD. Eleanor makes it look doable!

Chriss, I grew up in San Bernardino/Colton area. But I haven't been back since 1995. Got lots of relatives out there! Where at in Central California do you live? I bet you live close to Debi.

Hope everyone is planning on going to Paducah. We could all meet for supper that Saturday night. We plan on arriving on Saturday and leave on Tuesday. I'm not much for crowds so we're going to pass up the quilt show.

Evie, all three blocks are beautiful. I have my block finished. I'm doing my quilt in 1930's reproductions.

Don't forget to post pictures of your blocks here, when you are finished. I love seeing all the different fabric combinations.

SewSew, are you doing this one in Christmas fabrics?
