Washing Fabric: What is Synthrapol or Retayne?

Post by 1quiltinnana »

My new Batiks came and the washing instructions say to use either Synthrapol or Retayne in order to protect the dyes in the fabric. What are these products and where can I buy them? Any helpful advice is appreciated!

Retayne is added to the wash to keep clothes or fabric from bleeding. Synthapol is what you soak your fabric in before you run it through your printer or hand dye it, makes the ink permenamt. Amie

I don't prewash my fabrics and I always use Retayne on the first wash of my completed quilt; especially if I'm giving it away as a gift. I've never had any problem, even with whites and darks together. The first quilt I made I held my breath while I washed and dried it (hoping my quilt instructor was right) and it came out perfect.
