What is white gingham?

Post by sewbug »

I have a copy of an old newspaper quilt BOM and it says the background fabric would be best if white gingham was used. I've checked online at various fabric stores but no white gingham.

I've never heard of white gingham. Would white on white (WOW) do?

i think that gingham was a term to define a type of fabric...today we might think of gingham as a fabric with a specific pattern...does anyone recall indian head fabric?...it also described solid color fabric as well as yardage with a pattern...so in my opinion white gingham was white fabric of a certain kind just like we would say white fleece today!

Woult it have something to do with the weave of the fabric? In most WOW fabric the design is printed on the fabric but in real gingham the checks are woven in not printed on. I have never heard of white ginghan.

My grandmother used talk about & use gingham. I remember (I think) it being small checkerboard print. White would be probably white on white. try searching on internet. hope this helps

I think white gingham is a type of fabric, polyester and cotton blend that doesn't wrinkle like 100% cotton and thats what they used in the 50"s and 60's and I would not use it now in my quilts. but then, there are no quilt police so to each his own. Marge

I think I'll use WOW. The pattern is from the 30's. I like the idea of WOW being in a gingham design. That would be great to find.

Indian Head fabric - I remember that when I was in 4H. Made my first skirt from that fabric but haven't heard of it in many, many years.
