Good idea. I have been thinking on those lines also. I cut my fabric into 5" squares, and the strips you mentioned. I am really starting to be interested in scrap quilts, and have been buying the cheaper fabrics -- at a yard sale this summer I got a big trash bag full of fabric for 5.00!!! A way to be unemployed and still quilt!

I keep a basket by my cutting table and drop the small pieces in it as I cut. Then once in a while I take an hour and cut squares, strips or whatever I think might be useful. These I sor into bins and many times I can make a lap quilt, table runner or baby quilt without having to cut, just go to the bins and pull out what I need. This works for me because I love scrap quilts....
