I feel like I am among friends. Not just the type of friend that just say Hi, but the kind you laugh and cry with. Friends that freely share their lives, love and knowledge. All that and quilts fabric and toys. Carol may

This forum is a treasure!!

I retired from nursing in March due to a knee injury, plus all the shifts are going to 12 hours and I just can't hack it anymore.. My knee thankfully is just about normal :).

Being home mostly alone and not having the social contact from working and the sense of purpose that goes with it, was depressing. So I also went looking about for info on quilting and stumbled upon this forum, and Queen Peach welcomed me warmly, as did several others. I had no idea this was all relatively new, as so many seemed to know one another from the postings. What a warm, wonderful, generous and kindhearted community. And the fact that we can vent, laugh, err, share, learn and reach out to one another gives me something to look forward to every day.

Blessings on Linda and Andy for creating the forum, and for El's Angels and the Projects from the Heart. The sew-ins are great fun and help motivate me to set a specific time to get things done; and the postings are hilarious!!

Addition unexpected benefit is the prayers and messages of support and comfort.

Kadie is most eloquent with a simple E V E R Y T H I N G!!!

After my DH left for OH I thought that the best way to meet new people in the area would be to find quilters. Right about that time I got a QIAD newsletter reminding me to enter the monthly drawing so I went to the site to enter. That's when I found the forum. My first post was "Are there any quilters from the Cinci area?" or something like that. I thought I'd find a few and that would be that. Boy, am I glad I stayed! Not only did I find Cinci quilters, I've found a whole world of friends. I sincerely bless the day I found this site and I thank God for it everyday. My new family has held me up while my DH has been away and has supported me through many troubled days. I truely love you all. Each time I come in here I feel like the TV show "Cheers."
"Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name,
And they're always glad you came;
You want to be where you can see,
Our troubles are all the same;
You want to be where everybody knows your name."
God bless you all...
Lee

Boy Jennie, it is so hard to put into words what this forum means to me. We moved to this state from Oregon where we had lived for our whole lives..the last 25 in a town of 600 where everyone knew everyone else. I was excited about the move (we retired and wanted to live closer to our grandkids) but I never realized how much I would miss "friend" time. When you are older it isn't as easy to meet people and make true friends. I feel like I have done that here. I joined this forum on January 6th and it is the best thing that has happened to me. When I first joined I know my DH thought I was crazy and was spending too much time on the computer (he said..."Boy, if you were a kid you would be addicted to those chat rooms!") but now he even wants to know how everyone is doing. I had never quilted before joining but it was something that I had always wanted to try. Now I quilt nearly every day...both hand quilting and machine quilting thanks to everyone's encouragement! It is relaxing to me and gives me plenty of "thinking time." I feel blessed to have all of you in my life.

I joined in June. It is a place to come and beable to ask when there is a need and pray when there is a need. You just know that someone is going to be there with the information or whatever the need is. There is so much love here and so many projects to help out on, but you aren't forced into doing something that might be a hard on your finances. You can help where you feel you can. What a blessing this is whether you post a lot or just do a lot of reading.

I love this forum! Not only can I come here to get advice and kvetch about quilting, but the generosity and caring shown to each other always helps restore my faith in the good in this world. That is a gift I could never repay; it is beyond priceless.

Jennie,
I'm with you - this forum means a lot and has the greatest potential; that to comfort and that to teach.

I see it a bit more internationally though [wink], living in Canada and all that.

What's neat about this forum is how close members choose to be, the on-going jokes and the familiarity. Not all forums can achieve that level of true friendship.

I'm glad that we can reach out to people in America after disasters, I really, really am. I also wish that I was a better, faster quilter so that I could produce high quality quilts more quickly. Then, I could reach out to people around the world when disaster hits. They start with so much less than we do and they have the same or even more disasters to face.

In a nutshell that is what this forum means to me. the ability to reach out - be it to a stranger or a friend. The ability to make a lasting hug for someone who needs it.

I'm always inspired by hearing what others get up to. The photo section is a fabulous resource.

I have to add something after reading Evie's post. She remarked that her DH was good to talk to but at the moment he was grunting at the tv!

Thanks for the laugh. Needed that.

My DH is great to talk to about most things in life. He's not a great quilting buddy though ;)

Last night he actually gave me an answer about a placemat when I asked him. I think I was in shock for a minute!

I love having other quilting enthusiasts to talk to.
