We're in the middle of an ice storm.... here's a couple of pictures I took this morning, and will take more later.

Out our picture window, looking east:

Wow, it is beautiful... Snow is so pretty but I don't think I could live in it... once it snowed here and we had almost an inch on the ground.... it was fun at first but seemed to never melt.....We get that storm once ever 10 years or so... We get a lot of freezing but thankfully not much snow.

The first picutre where the tree is bare and in between the windows would make a great picture for the wall.... It is beautiful

Oh my gosh, that first picture is art work! It is just beautiful! Is an ice storm like hail?

Wow! I heard on our weather report last night that Iowa was supposed to be pounded with ice...hope you don't have a car outside....hate to chop that ice off....it always looks pretty from in the house, but the poor trees get so loaded down with ice, the branches sometimes break! Be careful if you go out so you don't slip and fall...don't want to hear that you broke a leg or something :(

Update - we can't see out the picture window any more... it's iced over.

We have cold air (28 degrees right now, and it's been in the teens at night, so everything is frozen) at ground level, and a warm front has come through. Warm air is above the cold air, and so rain freezes on the way down, and freezes when it hits anything, and builds up ice.

The TV said this morning that we're probably, definiately going to loose power today... I hope not, but we're prepared.

No Linda---an ice storm has less liquid that the sleet. Sleet usually falls with some rain mixed in with it. The ice storms we have here are bits(or larger pieces) of pure ice. Slick as snot on a doorknob. I stay home when that kind a storm hits. Several years ago we had an ice storm and our electricity was off for 10 days.

Beautiful pics CindyB!!!!!!! Hope you enjoy hunkering down this weekend with DH and sewing. This is the kind of weather I jsut love! As long as we have electricity that it. lol And food and DVD's. lol

I don't know about there Linda, but here an Ice Storm can be like little pellets of hail which would be the sleet or just a freezing rain. Freezing rain is the worst as it freezes upon contact and you have ZERO traction on the roads. Keeping a windshield clean while driving can be a nightmare. Watching the tree limbs & power lines build up with ice and the crackling sound is awful!!!!! You just wonder how soon until they snap & break.

This is so pretty but I would be glad to be inside for sure!!!
I wouldn't know what to do without electricity for 10 days, especially in the dead of winter. You all are brave souls!

Redtop how did you make it without power for 10 days? Any helpful tips or suggestions? Do you have a Generator? We do but cannot run it constantly.
