need help with binding
Since I am just getting back into quilting, I would like to learn how to sew the binding on the quilt by machine. I now sew it on the front turn it & hand sew on the back.
How do you machine sew it so you don't have to hand sew. I have tried to use decorative stitches but it still doesnt look right.
Also my hand stitches could look better. Help!!!

I would like to know how to do that also. Sometimes I don't want to spend so much time sewing down binding. Thanks for asking the question sharon. Lori

Re: need help with binding
Those were great, but I was looking for how to sew binding by machine after it has been sewn to the quilt.

Re: need help with binding
Lori, I think it was Eleanor that I saw using that fusible thread. She pulled the binding around to the back of the quilt and put the thread under the binding and heat pressed with an iron to hold it in place. She made sure that the binding was pulled back enough so that she could stitch in the ditch from the top of the quilt next to the edge of the binding and stitch a straight seam on the binding underneath. I think she said she used invisible thread for the top thread. I also saw Fons and Porter do this on their show.
I would recommend using 3" binding rather than 2 1/2" so you could have enough to pull around to the back for this method.

Me, too...have tried sewing the back side of the binding down by machine, from the top side, using stitch in the ditch...and the back side winds up looking like crap! So I resort to hand-stitching...sigh!

Evie,
I will try that too. I think it would work better with a wider binding. I'll let you know if this works

Re: need help with binding
There's a great tutorial on quilterstv.com that I used for the first time on a queen size and it came out beautifully. it's called "binding tips from Elisa Wilson". You can find it on the right side of the main page under featured designers.
Hope this helps.
