Best frame for hand quilting?
I'm considering learning to hand quilt. I don't want a large quilting frame for many reasons. What's next best- Q Snap, hoop, or what? Vera

Don't get a big frame. I was taught the best size frame for holding is one that fits from you extended middle finger to the inside of you elbow. Most handquilters I know use the square or round hoop that rotates and you sit it in your lap.

I love my plain 14 inch hoop that I got at JoAnn's. I can sit in my comfy chair and quilt for a long time that way.

I also love a 14 inch or an 18 inch round hoop. I use the 14 in. the most. I bought a lg round hoop on a frame from Hinterburg(sp?) yrs ago and it is just too uncomfortable. Wasted that money.

I love my snap-white plastic hoop. I use it for quilting in my lap, and for cross-stitching. I also have a small, 12 inch hoop that I use. I can take both of the above in traveling also. My husband is not distracted if I use it in the car. Don't spend money on a huge one. You will not use it. We have one at church, and it is in the storage. We just do not have a room to keep it out. It takes up space like a long-arm machine does. Keep it simple. Use your coupon at JoAnn's and get a simple one there. I don't think I have 15 dollars in mine.

Kid, My Mom has the one you described and she just dearly loves it. Also a friend has it and she is just as happy with hers. Don't they even make a floor model? I think it is about 3 ft. wide?

I recently bought a small PVC almost on your lap frame that you can adjust. I will find the lady, she is on ebay.

I use a hoop and can sit and quilt in my chair .....it is easy to rotate and change directions that way.
