Question about Sunbonnet Sue

Post by suzette58 » Mon Oct 29, 2007 12:16 pm

I just received 12 Sunbonnet Sue appliques from EBAY. My question is, how large should I make to square that I am going to applique it to? Each Sue is 7.5 inches tall. I was thinking of making a quilt for my middle grandaughter. I am going to have a print square (or solid) then the square with Sue alternating.

Don't square up until after you finish your applique, they will shrink and be a little wonky. Use like a 12" block, applique, and then square down to a 10" or 10.5". Amie

I really think you would like the 12 inch the best. But, audition them and you will know from sizing it up. After you all finished, then do the triming. I use a stabilizer with my SunBonnet patterns.
I don't use a thick-thick, but one that will give it good body. Or, are you doing this all by hand? The stabilizer is easy to use if you are doing the blanket stitch on the machine. Have fun.
