Re: sergers
I had a Simplicity serger for years, truly years. It did not have differential feed but now I believe they do. It worked perfectly and I really used it much more than the "upgrade" I purchased. I really like the one I bought but I used the Simplicity a whole lot!
I believe they(Simplicity) run between $180 and $300. I would not spend a lot on a serger because of the limited usage. I wouldn't want to be without one but they only do so much.

Re: sergers
I love my serger. It is old though, was my mom's. It is a White brand and is about 15 years old. Never have had a problem with it, keep it oiled and the fuzz blown out. I use it mainly for sewing pj's for the grandkids and occasionally dresses and costumes. I like being able to have the edges so nicely finished. I was told once by a sewing shop to never get rid of it as they don't make them as heavy duty now. You might want to talk to a sewing machine shop and see if they have any older reconditioned ones.

Ok where are you getting these Sergers at such a good price. I have been looking for one and got one earlier this year off EBay but it got messed up in shipping so I had to return it. i am still looking for one.
