How do you get the creases out of battting ?

Post by SewMuchTime » Tue Oct 16, 2007 6:28 pm

Hi girls! Do any of you know what the secret is to getting the
creases out of batting when it is fresh out of the packaging?
I pull on it and gently smooth it, trying not to tear it, but
I have run across some that just won't go away? Then it starts
to show thru when I am quilting. :(

My best luck has been to take it out of the package a day or two before I need it and let it 'breathe'. I open it out and let it lay on a bed or other big surface.

i usually dont have an issue with the batting wrinkles - before my long arm i always sandwiched on the floor I would start in the middle and smooth it to the edges then tape it down with masking tape until I got the top on then quilt as usual
now it just kinda hangs there and I tug it as I go
what kind of batting are u using

I take mine out of the package a few days before using it, too. I spread it out on the guest bed and let it relax and breath.

Have you tried the dryer on gentle cycle?

Yeah, you could probably mist it with water before putting it in the dryer (as Evie suggested). That's one of the reasons I like Warm and Natural: it can be ironed out.

Sounds like you've already started quilting. If it is in the frame, try a warm iron

I do just what cindyg does. By taking it out several days before-the batting has time to really change with being spread out over the bed. If wrinkles still persist, then I take the steam iron over that area while it is still on the bed or area where you have put it.
