Washing cut fabric?

This happened to me once and this is what i done. I made the blocks put the top together, then done a tight stay stitch a little less than a quarter inch around the whole quilt top. I then washed it in the machine on the gentle cycle i line dried it to almost dry then tossed it in the dryer for the last few minutes. it worked good I tried it once without the stay stitching and ruined a top.

My LQS recommends for small pieces of fabric. Wetting the fabric then iron it dry.

I soak mine in hot water, dry them on a towel and iron. Put like colors together, but only a few at a time. Since my energy level is so low, stay stitching would be too trying.
