Littlebit, thanks for posting this. I've messaged and e-mailed rebeerose letting her know I'd posted the pic for her, but I think she's been busy and hasn't received the messages. Isn't this quilt touching and what a fantastic job she did!?!!!!

Hello all, sorry things have been hectic here!
I did this Portrait quilt in memory of my youngest Nephew "Donnie" killed in action in Haditha Irag on Oct. 25, 2006. And the second Marine is his older brother Kenneth who did 3 tours in Iraq and came home safe. So its a Memorial/Tribute quilt to them. I first enlarged thier pictures and then put them on acitate, then used an overhead prjector to enlarge them to a 24" x 20" pic, which I drew on to poster board. Then I just cut out to make templates. It took just 2 months to hand applique both of the portraits and get the quilt totally done. I started it mid May and finished it July 14. I put it in our local county fair where it won a second place ribbon. I have since given the quilt to my brother who is the boys' father. It was a work worth doing! It made my brother cry! I hope this encourages all of you to try something new in a way of making quilts. Never say can't! At least try! You will never gain but not trying! Thanks to all of you for you encouragement on this quilt! It empowered me to really do my best!
Thanks to Georgiapeach for posting it for me! I really appreciate you! And now I have to email my sister-in-law (the boys' mother), I hve to let her know its now online! She herself is now learning to quilt!

WOW! This brings tears to me. Thank You for the story behind the quilt. I think you did an excellant job!! Sorry about losing your nephew though. This must be a true gift of love to the parents. Thank You for being the person you are and for doing this as well as letting us see it. I think it deserves far better than a 2nd place ribbon.

I just knew I would shed tears reading the story. It was so great that you were able to do this. Your brother and sister in law must be so thrilled to have it.
Our son is a Marine and I pray for all of the troops. I am thankful he is safe and cry whenever I hear of a soldier not making it home. It is such a sad sad thing.
OMG...8 ribbons. You sure were busy! What a fantastic accomplishment. CONGRATULATIONS!!! I have only entered a fair once with one item. No ribbon, but it was fun. I am new to Fl and haven't found 'fairs' like we had up north.
