Any Viking Sapphire owners out there?

Post by HomespunMary » Sat Oct 06, 2007 11:17 am

I tried so hard not to look at the new Viking Sapphire machines at my machine dealer's the other day, because I've got a fairly new Viking Platinum (1.5 years old) and should not be thinking of any new purchases in this area, but... my dealer offered me a good deal if I would trade in my Platinum for a new "Sapphire 870 Quilt"...

So, now I can't really let go of the thought, but also have the feeling I should do some more research this time before I get a new machine than I did last time.

So, anyone out there who's got the new "Viking Sapphire Quilt"? In that case:
- Do you like it? Why?
- Does the automatic thread tension thing really work? Can you turn it off if you don't like it?
- What does the extension table look like and how do you like it?
- When you use the automatic thread cutter, and then start sewing again, how does the bobbin thread behave? Doesn't it get a bit tangled up the first inch or so?
- Do you know if there's some kind of equivalent to the Bernina stitch regulator that can be attached to the Sapphire?

I'll ask my dealer these and about a hundred other question next week, but thought it would be nice to hear the opinions of some people who have already used it... :-)

Wish I could help you. I think you will get more advice if you posted this in General Discussions. I don't know about the others, but I only check over in this forum maybe once a day if that much.

I say go for it. I think all the new machines are great, no matter the brand. One thing to think about. The dealers in my area, all brands, have stopped taking trade ins! They said they had to store them and they didn't sell very fast. So if you are able to get a good trade in for your machine then that's a bonus!

I say go for it! As far as I can see, it's a great machine. Viking's thread cutter is great. I have no problems on my Designers with the bobbin thread getting tangled up.

Yes, I'll probably go for it...

How ridiculous, though... A week ago I had no plans whatsoever to buy a new machine, and now I can't stop thinking about it... :-)

qltsbme....I wonder if I am doing something wrong with my thread cutter. I had mentioned in another thread that I didn't like mine at all, and I noticed you say you really like yours. Seems like if I use it, my first few stitches don't start right away, or they get kind of tangled. Maybe I should play with it a little bit more. I thought it was the tangling I didn't like, but now that I think about it, it may be the stitches not catching right away. Any suggestions?
I have a D 1.
